Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: "If there's a name synonymous with high performance American cars, then it's got to be the legendary Carroll Shelby.

"Not only this, in 1995 it featured prominently in a leading classic car magazine, including editorial and front cover billing, and of course it boasts one of the UK's most famous show business personalities among its previous owners. This car just oozes star appeal and rightfully takes its place centre stage at the auction."

Viewing of the lots at Race Retro will be all day on the Friday (24th) and until lunchtime on the Saturday (25th), when bidding commences. Under the hammer will be classic and race cars, motorcycles and automobilia. Anyone interested in attending the sale will be required to purchase an auction catalogue.
