Silverstone Auctions has consigned a pair of highly collectible motorcycles from global pop star Jay Kay of Jamiroquai to its sale at Race Retro on Saturday 24th February at Stoneleigh Park.
Among a total of nine motorcycles to be offered at auction, a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 600 K3 and a Kawasaki Police Z1000 "Chips" are expected to draw crowds from far and wide when they are both offered with celebrity provenance at No Reserve.
The Suzuki GSXR 600 Superbike was part of a sponsorship deal between Suzuki Motorcycles, Crescent Racing (who ran the Suzuki Rizla Superbike team at the time) and Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay. The bike was gifted to Jay at the end of the arrangement in 2004 and has sat in his private collection ever since. Showing just 500 miles from new, its condition can accurately be described close to ‘as new' and has various unique features, including the ‘JK’ number plate.
The second bike is a rare Kawasaki Z1000 which has been prepared to the exact specification of the police bikes used in the US TV series of "Chips" representing the California Highway Patrol bikes of the day. First registered in July 1989, it was bought by Jay Kay in March 2012 from fellow enthusiast, motorcycle legend, and ex-Grand Prix racer - Steve Parrish. Since then, it has seen very little use and has mainly been on display at his home with various other pieces of Americana. Today it represents an excellent collectors opportunity to acquire a rare version of a true classic motorcycle and one of the first real 'Superbikes' ever made.
