A ‘time-warp’ 1987 Ford Capri 280 'Brooklands' previously owned by former British racing driver and television broadcaster, Mark Blundell, has been consigned by Silverstone Auctions to its Race Retro Classic Car Sale on Saturday 24th February.
As one of just 1,038 examples made, the particularly rare version of Ford's ground-breaking coupé is presented in incredible condition and has covered just 12,800 miles throughout its cosseted life.
This special Capri ‘Brooklands’ has spent much of its life off the roads ever since it was first laid up as a result of an injury to its owner at the time in the 1980s. In 2007 the car emerged from storage showing an indicated mileage of just 8,820 miles and was then recommissioned, including a fresh coat of Brooklands Green paint and refurbishment of the leather interior and wheels.
The car went on to become part of two separate Ford collections before it was purchased and relocated to South Africa in 2009, where it would sit proudly among a small collection of special Fords for almost a decade.
It was in 2017 that Mark Brundell set out to find the best Capri on the market, which led him to this particular car, which was subsequently returned to the UK, still presented in exceptional condition.
It will be offered for a sale at Race Retro at Stoneleigh Park with an estimate of £30,000 to £35,000, and is accompanied by the original owner's file, the original stamped service book, sound system operating guide and period brochures and photographs.
