Richard Hammond car collection heads to Iconic Auctioneers Sale at Race Retro
Iconic Auctioneers will offer four cars from the personal collection of TV presenter and motoring enthusiast Richard Hammond at its Competition & Collectors’ Car Sales held during the Race Retro Show on Saturday 21st February at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. The cars reflect Hammond’s broad automotive interests and will be presented alongside Iconic Auctioneers’ established catalogue of competition and collectors’ cars.
The consignment from Richard Hammond’s car collection ranges from a rare pre-war Riley tourer to a freshly restored Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2, with two vehicles closely associated with the TV programme Richard Hammond’s Workshop and DriveTribe also included. Each car has been used, enjoyed and maintained as intended, underlining Iconic Auctioneers’ position as specialists in sourcing and presenting quality vehicles at every level of the market.
Rob Hubbard, Managing Director and Principal Auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, said:
“Richard Hammond is first and foremost a genuine car enthusiast, and this small but varied group of cars reflects that perfectly. From pre-war touring to modern track performance, each example has been selected and prepared with real care. We are pleased to be offering them at Race Retro, a venue that brings together knowledgeable buyers who understand quality, provenance and usability.”
Offered directly from Richard Hammond, this 1979 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2 has recently been restored by The Smallest Cog Workshop following its appearance on Richard Hammond’s Workshop. The work included body restoration, a full new interior by Aldridge Trimming, suspension and brake refurbishment, mechanical servicing and a refinish in Ford Midnight Blue. Supplied new in the UK and supported by an extensive history file, the RS2000 has been used sparingly during Hammond’s ownership, including an appearance at the VSCC Pomeroy Trophy in 2025. A signed Corgi 1:43 scale model will accompany the car. (Estimate £25,000 to £30,000)

This MG B GT race car is Richard Hammond’s personal competition car and the final vehicle he drove during his time on Top Gear. The MG was converted from a road car into a fully prepared competition car during Series 2 of Richard Hammond’s Workshop at The Smallest Cog. Powered by a Rick Wood Motorsport engine producing 131bhp, the car has completed four seasons of racing between 2022 and 2025 and has recently been checked and prepared for further use. A signed Corgi model linked to the programme will accompany the car. (Estimate £15,000 to £20,000)

The Riley 14/6 Alpine Sports Tourer is a rare and correct example of one of the marque’s most respected pre-war models, with only a small number produced. It benefits from a continuous history, period upgrades including triple bronze-bodied carburettors, 10-inch headlamps and a four-speed ‘silent third’ gearbox, and offers genuine four-seat touring capability. Purchased by Richard Hammond in 2019, the Riley has been used on local roads and maintained in good running order, making it suitable for VSCC events and regular use. (Estimate £18,000 to £24,000)

Built as a filmed project for DRIVETRIBE and driven by Izzy Hammond, this 2006 MINI Cooper S began life as a £1,500 purchase before extensive development. Following an early engine failure, the car was rebuilt with over £20,000 of parts and now features a Lohen-built 1.8-litre engine producing a dyno-proven 304bhp, along with drivetrain upgrades and a full roll cage. Known as ‘Stanley’, the MINI has appeared in multiple online videos and was driven at the VSCC Pomeroy Trophy in 2025, giving it clear media and event history. (Estimate £10,000 to £15,000)
