The Race is On!

The 2018 Motor Sport Hall of Fame sees the introduction of a new category - Racing car - celebrating the most impressive racing machines from across the history of motorsport. To mark the new addition, two of the inaugural six nominees will be on display at Race Retro, held from 23-25 Feb at Stoneleigh Park.

The Audi Sport Quattro S1 was introduced at the end of 1984 as an update to the Audi Sport Quattro. The car features an inline five-cylinder 2110 cc engine and produces an officially quoted figure of 470bhp, however the turbocharger utilised a recirculating air system, with the actual figure in excess of 500bhp. Weighing only 1090 kg, it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds.

Twenty years after the cancellation of Group B, the Sport Quattro S1 was still widely regarded as the most powerful rally car ever fielded in international competition, with the final factory machines of 1986 rated at an incredible 591bhp.

This particular car E2 competed in the 1985 RAC rally driven by Walter Rohrl but crashed out during the event forcing retirement. The car then went on to become a development vehicle for the double clutch ‘PDK’ gearbox. It was acquired by Audi UK in the late 1990s who have kindly loaned it for display.

Joining the Audi is the Ford Cosworth RS500. This particular model, owned by Paul Linfoot, is one of only nine RS500s to carry a works Ford chassis number- this being 99266.

The car was run by Ringshausen Motorsport for the 1988 through to 1990 DTM series for Ford motorsport in the Lui Magazine and the famous Texaco livery, driven by Manuel Reuter in 1988, Volker Weidler in 1989 and Ford works driver Piere Dieudonne in 1990.

The car is totally original and in outstanding condition, still sporting its 1988 Lui livery.

Both of these stunning cars can be seen in the Motor Sport Hall of Fame Live alongside other racing and rally legends.

The inaugural Racing Car nominees are the Porsche 917, Williams FW14B, Jaguar XJR9, Audi Quattro, McLaren MP4/4 and the Ford Cosworth RS500.
