Peter Baker – 1954 Daimler Conquest
Peter Baker’s 1954 Daimler Conquest, known by one and all as ‘Doris’ follows in the footsteps of the factory competition cars. Fitted with a four-speed pre-selector gearbox and fluid flywheel.
Since 2018 Doris has been comprehensively campaigned in many forms of motor sport, including a full season of hill climbing and twice to Monte Carlo. Just before lock-down Peter re-enacted history by entering the Rallye Monte Carlo Classique and travelled three-up from Glasgow to Monaco. Among the crew, a certain Robert Grounds, whose mother finished 17th overall in a similar car on the Rallye in 1955.
The most recent serious escapade has been the 2023 Rallye Monte Carlo Historique where they were given rally number 277 in recognition of the 1955 success.
